Vercel, Namecheap
I am trying to update my handle with my domain @earvinpiamonte.com
in Bluesky. It requires me to add a TXT
record in my DNS records.
I head on quickly and check my Vercel deployment and I noticed a warning in the Domain settings, "DNS Change Recommended".

So I tried to edit it by clicking on the "Edit" button and there is no way to edit or add a DNS record. I tried re-adding the domain earvinpiamonte.com
but still resulted with the warning and still no way to add a DNS record.
I checked my domain in Namecheap and there I found out I have two records for name servers:
ns1.vercel-dns.com
ns2.vercel-dns.com
I took me some time to figure out what is wrong and what needs to change.
I went to my domain in Namecheap and updated my Name Servers from "Custom DNS" to "Namecheap BasicDNS".

After the update of name servers type in Namecheap, I went back to my domain settings in Vercel and removed the existing earvinpiamonte.com
and www.earvinpiamonte.com
.

Then I added the domain earvinpiamonte.com
again leaving "Redirect" checked and the environment to "Production".

After saving, my domains looked like this:

It showed errors for the two records, "Invalid Configuration".
Notice the change in the UI? Setting the errors aside, finally, I can now see the DNS records provided by Vercel that I need to configure in my domain settings in Namecheap.
For earvinpiamonte.com
, I have A
type for the host @
with a corresponding IP. And for www.earvinpiamonte.com
, I have CNAME
type for the host www
.
I copied these two records in Namecheap under "Advance DNS".

I noticed that Namecheap added a period .
at the end of the value for the wwww
record. I don't know why Namecheap added that. But I just left the period as is after saving.
I went back to Vercel and refreshed the domain settings.

It took some time for the changes to propagate. I believe Vercel automatically refreshes this but I can't wait for it so I clicked on the "Refresh" button a few times before the errors went away.
That's it! I finally resolved the warning in the DNS settings of my domain in Vercel.
I checked my website and it is still working perfectly. Redirect to www
still works just like before.

So, yes, to add DNS records, I need to add them in my domain provider which is Namecheap. I didn't see the option to add DNS records previously because my name servers were set to "Custom DNS".
I was also able to update and verify my handle in Bluesky.
